Looking at the other side: Challenging your thoughts and understanding the other
You and the other person are both human | Respect your human side
My days with Omnism
My childhood days were marked with a healthy appreciation for different spiritual traditions. Looking back I think I was an omnist in a away, but my journey has transformed me to an inclusivist.
I don't know if it is an upgrade or downgrade but one thing I really appreciate and take interest in people's journey. When a person converts to a new idea or belief system, he tends to look at his former beliefs with a bad gaze. I am convinced that if we move beyond this and look at the positives we can reduce our biases and have a healthy deconstruction.
Charity and the humanity of others
It is important to be charitable and kind is difficult in certain circumstances. I remember years ago being challenged by certain new ideas and being thrown into an epistemological darkness of sorts. I was really traumatized by the entire thing, but it made look at different ideas and beliefs from a new vantage point. I started to see things differently. It was an out of body experience in a way. You can call it the dark night of the soul. But it transformed things for me for the good. I began to see the importance of valuing our humanity above ideas and systems that can try to divide us. I saw the importance of reaching out the so called 'others' with kindness and understanding.
Civil religion is Religion
I don't know if Religion is a good thing or bad, I know it is something I have inherited and so have most people. Looking at the human side of this entire collage of beliefs is important. We inherently have tendency to resort to a tribalism which can be fun in a way but we must admit it damages us as a society.
Parting Thoughts
We may share different lives and ideas, but we all share a common thread of humanity. We must not downplay and think nothing of it, it is a very powerful idea that has a potential to change and benefit us all.
Wish you a Happy Valentine's day, Spread love and understand it better.
